Credit Cards
You may either pay by credit card at each session, or I can bill you monthly through PayPal. Please note that credit card payments made through PayPal will include a 3% processing fee. This fee is added into the amount shown below when you receive your invoice. The online payment process is simplified if you already have or create a free PayPal account, however, a PayPal account is not necessary to make a payment. To make a payment without a PayPal account simply fill out the credit card information below the “Don’t have a PayPal account?” section.
Cancellation Policy
Since your therapy involves specifically reserving my time I need a minimum of 24 hours notice if you need to cancel for any reason. If due to illness, transportation problems, etc, you cannot come in, a phone session will be offered to you if you give at least 2 hours notice. You will be charged $100 for any missed appointment without 24-hour notice of cancellation.
Number of Sessions
Most symptoms related to trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression or relationships issues can be significantly improved in 2 to 6 sessions. Problems related to psychosis, personality disorders or bi polar depression may need 24 to 60 sessions. I work very carefully with each of my clients to develop a treatment plan that fits their diagnosis and takes into account the reality of cost. Call or email me for more information. Remember, it’s helpful to consider why you are going to therapy, the time frame offered for your expected outcome, and then evaluating your progress after a set number of sessions. The goals for therapy should be very clear and discussed frequently, so that you can be sure you are making progress and receiving value for therapy.
Other Options for Paying for Counseling
In thinking about paying for treatment you can consider the following:
- Use your EAP benefit, which is often at no cost for up to 6 sessions.
- Pay between $20 to $40 for your copay, if you are using insurance.
- Use a health savings account to reimburse up to 100% of your fees for psychoanalysis and therapy.
- Your cash payment may be claimed on your taxes as a medical expense. Talk to a qualified accountant about this.
- Your cash payment for therapy with a licensed therapist can, in most cases, go toward meeting your annual insurance deductible.
- I can provide you with an invoice for your insurance company or your accountant.
- Payments plans can help make therapy more affordable and more convenient. I accept automatic electronic installment payments.
- I do offer reduced rates for people who need therapy, but simply can’t afford it.
Confidentiality
Information relayed in the course of counseling will be held in the strictest confidence and will not be disclosed to any person or agency without written consent. The only exceptions are as follows: 1) Statements made regarding intention to harm self or others, 2) any acts of child or elder abuse, and 3) information that would require emergency medical intervention. Consultation may be held with other professionals if I believe it will be useful in our work.
